Many women experience abuse or other forms of domestic violence. Taking the first step toward help can be difficult and overwhelming. This vulnerable group needs focused attention and a listening ear. From safety and trust we work together on recovery, regaining self-control, and building a future with more safety, peace, and stability. 

What kind of help is offered?

• Personal conversations and a listening ear
• Referrals and guidance toward professional support services, such as a psychologist or child protection services.
• Support in finding legal assistance (e.g., for a restraining order or divorce)
• Practical help with moving or making the home safer
• Distribution of food parcels, clothing, and other essential supplies
• Financial support for medical care and legal aid
• Guidance in finding suitable work
• Organizing workshops and awareness talks to increase domestic violence awareness and prevention within the community

Project Goal

The goal is to remove women from dangerous or unhealthy situations and provide them with a safe place to live. They receive the psychological support needed to recover and regain hope and confidence in the future. 

A story about Maria...

Maria is not her real name. She dreamed of having a family with a loving husband and children. Her husband made her marriage of only 3 years a living hell, she says.

Over the years, Charis has seen and heard many things, but the images she shared were hard to look at. They made you want to look away. She was distrustful; who wouldn’t be after experiencing domestic violence?

Not much additional help was needed. She already had another place to live, but to make it a suitable home, she still needed an oven and a washing machine. The oven was especially important because her youngest child requires special meals due to a physical condition. Charis provided these items so that the family could live more comfortably and meet their daily needs.

A small step toward independence and a new life. Because Charis understands the vulnerability of these women, a female team member is always present whenever men are involved in the project, such as during equipment installation. This helps reinforce their sense of safety.

In addition, Charis has put Maria in touch with a lawyer who is handling her affairs. Unfortunately, divorce proceedings can sometimes drag on for years, causing vulnerable women to relive their past over and over. So far, Maria's proceedings have gone well. She can begin to think about a future without fear.
