Mission
Charis exists to provide care and support to people in vulnerable situations. Rooted in a Christian identity and inspired by faith, hope, and love, the foundation seeks to show that every person is created with value and dignity. We believe that everyone deserves respect, equal opportunities, and the chance to develop their full potential. This conviction drives our commitment to supporting fundamental needs such as education, a safe home environment, access to medical care, sufficient and nutritious food and clean water, and emotional support.
Vision
By making God's love visible in words and deeds, the organization wants to help people towards a future where they are not trapped in poverty and hopelessness.

How it began...
In Florești, a village near Cluj-Napoca in Romania, many Roma children grow up facing significant challenges. Poverty, social barriers, and limited opportunities can make it difficult for children to complete their education and build a hopeful future. This is where Charis comes alongside children and families, creating opportunities and supporting them on their journey toward a brighter future.
Charis Foundation grew from the work of Marien and Yvonne Kroon, who moved from the Netherlands to Romania with their family in 2000 to dedicate themselves to serving people in vulnerable situations.
In 2005, a significant turning point came in the work. During an outreach program, more than 160 Roma children participated in activities in the village within a short period of time. This revealed the depth of the need for care, guidance, and hope.
In response to this need, Charis was founded. That same year, Casa Speranța (House of Hope) opened its doors. From this location, the Charis Foundationcontinues to support children and families in the community, walking alongside them as they work toward a better future.
Behind Charis is a committed team of staff and volunteers who serve daily. Together, they work from faith, hope, and love to create new opportunities in the community.
